Some time ago I felt like lightening my hair color but I didn’t want any chemicals or hair salon processing. That’s why I went for natural methods suitable for home use. I prepared a few mixtures and tested them for quite a while. What was the effect?
Hydrogen peroxide
No big deal. I took a ready product and applied it to hair. At first, I used 3% hydrogen peroxide, keeping in mind that the substance lightens hair color by even four tones. There’s one condition that must be met to get the desired effect, namely, it must be used regularly for quite a while. What’s the exact procedure? In an atomizer bottle, I mixed hydrogen peroxide with boiled tap water in a 1:1 ratio, sprayed the mixture on hair, left it in for approx. 30 minutes, securing the hair with a shower cap. Then, I shampooed the hair and used a moisturising and repairing mask. Remember that the time of keeping hydrogen peroxide in hair depends on your hair color.
Honey and camomile hair masks
Both masks are all-natural and to me – the best. Before using each one, I gave my hair a thorough wash. I used pure acacia or linden honey free from additives. I applied the mask and left it in for several hours, rinsed using warm water and a moisture-boosting shampoo.
Camomile hair mask requires a bit more effort. Pour boiling water over dried camomile leaves, let the infusion cool down, add hydrogen peroxide in a 1:5 ratio. Steep hair in the mixture and put on a shower cap. After quite a while, I rinsed it using a moisturizing shampoo.
Lemon hair rinse
I mixed equal amounts of water and lemon juice. Then, I soaked hair in it and exposed it to the sunlight. Remember that UV radiation may prove harmful for the tresses so always follow up with a deep moisturising or nourishing mask.
Lightening hair color at home: key things to remember
- If the resulting color is too dark, shampoo the hair several times in a row.
- You think your hair hue is too warm? Try a shampoo with a purple pigment to make the shade cooler.
- If your hair color is greenish, give a copper conditioner a shot.
