Let’s shop! Essential things to check while shopping for makeup, skin & hair products

While shopping in a drugstore, we rarely pay attention to the most vital things concerning makeup, skin and hair care products. We tend to be more absorbed by sales, special offers and friend’s suggestions. However, there are a few essential points we should think of while browsing through cosmetics.

Packaging and tamper-proofing

Before a purchase, take a closer look at a cosmetic. Make sure the packaging isn’t damaged because bacteria may get through tiniest holes, making the product work worse. Also, each beauty product should have a security seal or label. If the packaging makes you doubtful, you’d better give up on it. Somebody might have opened the packaging to test it.

Choose the right one for your skin/hair type

While shopping for beauty products, always make sure to match them to your skin and hair type. It doesn’t matter if you prefer the smell or packaging of a product which isn’t right for your skin or hair type. If your skin is dry, using products designed for oily skin will just make your skin worse. Similarly, using product for low-porosity hair while you hair is highly porous makes no sense.

Ingredients of beauty products

Carefully read the list of components. This way, you can easily decide if a given product is going to bring benefits or harm your skin or hair. If you don’t know all these sophisticated names on the label, check them online. Just keep in mind: the fewer the ingredients, the better.

Expiry date

I guess the most important thing you must check while shopping for cosmetics. Expired products or ones that are about to expire may have a bad effect on your hair or skin. Always check the expiration dates. You get them in form of dates or a jar informing how long you can use the cosmetic after opening the packaging.

Request some samples

It’s always better to try a sample or a mini version before getting the product which may turn out to be a beauty or makeup washout. You can get samples in big stores or when doing online shopping. This lets you take a sensible decision whether a cosmetic is right for you.
